When are the two going to leave? When are they going to decide when they’re going to leave? Both of those things needs to be resolved in order to know what your tv inventory is going to look like.
What will be the big12’s relationship with ESPN going forward? Are they going to sue ESPN?
Do they need to renegotiate with Fox and ESPN once UT and OU leave? That is also dependent on knowing when the 2 are going to leave and having that settled.
If they need to renegotiate with ESPN, are they going to do that while suing them? They need to know the terms Fox and ESPN are offering for new teams. Do they need input from Fox and espn about new teams in order to make the best decision to maximize revenue?
And then on top of that, every school likely has exit fees (other than BYU). Is the big12 going to front those fees? Usually, the conference wouldn’t because the opportunity to join a better league is beneficial enough that the school will take care of it. But this is different. This is about survival. So does that mean the big12 will pay? If so - how? Will they use the exit fee collected from OU and UT? If so, they’ll need to have that settled before making that decision.
All of that is stuff that probably needs to be worked out before they actually invite specific teams. They may decide to expand by a certain number of schools. But it seems likely that they won’t actually invite the schools until they have more info and more time to formulate the plan.
Plus, the big12 leadership is stupid and inept. So it will take them EXTRA time and they will probably make the wrong decision in the end anyways.
