A few years ago a buddy of mine was having his birthday party and I went over there. He was really close to John through some volleyball connections and John was there as well. I vaguely recognized him from somewhere but did not know who he was and struck up a conversation with him.

My buddy comes over and sees us talking and tells me that this guy is the current head coach for USA volleyball. This is where it gets awkward.

Me: that is amazing! Where did you play college at?
Him: UCLA
Me: oh cool. When I was younger, I remember them being really good at volleyball and winning a bunch of national championships. It seems like they have not won in a long time. When was the last time they won?
Him:1995, when I was a player
Me: Wow, see what I mean?? Seems like they should have won one more recently. Anyway, what do you do for work when you’re not busy with USA volleyball?
Him: I’m the head coach for UCLA
