The “system” worked when US talent production was light years ahead of the
rest of the world, similar to where basketball was back in the 90’s. Back then you probably could have taken an average or even below NBA team and won the gold.
But the world is catching up in producing women’s soccer talent and the time of being able to dominate while paying minimal attention to team selection and coaching has passed.
