Every country struggles to move on from a winning generation of talent. You see
it in the men's game too. Spain wins world cup, out in group stage next world cup. Germany wins world cup, out in group stage next world cup. It's difficult to want to change a winning team too much and you tend to hold on to some players too long. Or they lose their edge. Hopefully this Olympic loss makes it easier to move on from Rapinoe, Lloyd and others who are clearly past their prime.
I'm not sure the US women will ever dominate the sport like they have previously again. Other teams have gotten much better. With the talent gap gone, it will be more like what you see in men's soccer internationally.
