We see above average QB play. I believe BYU has the talent at the line, RB, WR and TE to move the ball and score points
but I’m not currently confident that Jaren sees the field very well and or makes good decisions upon scanning the field. He may develop into an all world QB but his play against a below average Arizona game is not evidence of a guy who is highly skilled at tossing the ball around effectively and keeping the defense honest by respecting the pass game and allowing openings for RBs to do their thing.

Seemed like the defense could possibly be good enough to hold Utah to 21 or less but I’m just not sure Jaren has what it takes just yet. I really hope that I’m wrong — Jaren is clearly a great athlete and more importantly appears to be such a great young man and ambassador for BYU but I fear like many other dual threat QBs, they generally aren’t the best pure passing QBs.

Again, I really hope he proves me wrong and goes on to a great season — seems like a high quality person and I wish him all the success in the world.
