Random MLB thoughts.....
A few things that stuck out to me as I was looking at Baseball statistics last night in bed.

1. I'm a Dodger fan, but it's pretty impressive that the Giants are on pace for 108 wins and don't have a single player in the top 20 in WAR. Brandon Crawford ranks highest at #22, and there's no other position players in the top 50. They've built the best record on having a deep, consistent lineup and solid pitching. Good job, Giants....now please lose a few games.

2. It's fun that the Blue Jays have two absolute studs who are sons of former major leaguers in Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette. Would have been even cooler if their dads had played together. Crazy that they're stuck in fourth place when they have 2 top five guys in WAR and 3 in the top 25.

3. Sal Perez has 103 RBI's and is on pace for about 120 for the season. Any guesses on who the last catcher to top 120 RBI's in a season was? (Answer below)

4. I'm still bummed out that Ronald Acuna ended missing half the season. Was on pace for a monster year.

5. (Obligatory Dodger comment) With all the money my Dodgers have spent, their best offensive player this year is Max Muncy, whom they rescued off the scrap pile when the A's released him. Love me some Max Muncy.

6. Didn't Detroit used to have a baseball team? I could have sworn they did, but I don't see any players from Detroit in the ESPN stat tracker (sorry Russkiejedi).

7. I really want Julio Urias to win 20 games. Not (just) because I'm a Dodger homer, but because when I was a kid it was always cool when a guy won 20 games, and it doesn't happen that often anymore (and yes, I know wins are a meaningless stat for starting pitchers, but it's still cool.)

8. Kind of surprised that with all of the strikeouts this year, there isn't a single pitcher on pace for more than 260K's. It's a function of starters being asked to pitch deep into games far less often, as nobody is on pace to exceed 220 innings. I'm not a fan of "bullpen games" (and my Dodgers do it probably more than anyone). Just an old man rant.

9. I don't have a great feel for who's going to make the World Series. The Giants can't go because it's an odd numbered year (does that still work?). I don't trust the Dodger's bullpen. If I had to pick a non-LA team to go in the NL, I'm going to vote for the Brewers, because who hates the Brewers? In the AL it would be fun to see the White Sox go. Love those throwbacks they've been wearing this year.

Trivia answer - Mike Piazza knocked in 124 runs in 1999. Perez's current 103 are the most by a catcher since Buster Posey also had 103 in 2012. RBI's are probably an over-rated stat, but Sal Perez is good at baseball.
