“While at Gilbert Perry High, he attended a BYU juniors camp. Hatch played so well that week, he earned a scholarship offer. For Hatch, who was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this was a dream. But in 2016, BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall left for Virginia. The new staff had little interest in Hatch.
In his third year at Arizona State, Hatch hasn’t forgotten. According to Cody Hatch, Edwards last week asked Hatch, one of five team captains, to represent Arizona State for the pregame coin toss against UNLV. Hatch told the coach, “Hey, can you let somebody else take this one? I got to have the BYU game.” Cody Hatch said Edwards agreed to let his son represent the Sun Devils at both games.“
