In 2019, after they beat us soundly, Tyler Huntley started it by saying BYU was “so poo poo”. A playful albeit childish jab, but when he said “we ain’t never going to lose to them”, it became a true curse.
In 2020, they refused to play us because they knew it would be an ugly ugly loss. BYU likely would have won by 30+ If we played last year. Them trying to play fate and not play us so they could keep the streak going only strengthened the curse.
In 2021, Todd Noall takes a cheap, uncalled for, dirty shot at Max Hall, making fun of a man’s darkest hour. After it went public, he tried to make people believe he was sorry about it, but continued to sell the shirts.
After the game, which BYU won, the podcasters post an episode calling Kalani “di*kish”, among other things, for being a passionate coach.
Less than a week after the podcast, Utah loses to MWC powerhouse* SDSU, starting 1-2 for the first time since 2007, with their only win against FCS Weber State.
Utah now heads into the final few years of the Whittingham era with a higher number in the loss column of the rivalry, disagreement among the coaching staff, and a frustrated fan base. All of this has happened because of their lack of grace. For the foreseeable future, Utah will be losers in the holy war, and will likely continue to underachieve in the Pac.
