The trenches were definitely where ASU had the biggest advantage.

I observed that we would cheer when ASU’s running backs would gain 3 or 4 yards, because it felt like we “stopped” them. But we’d also cheer when a BYU RB would gain 3 or 4 yards.

That’s usually a sign that the war in the trenches is one your team is losing. But our lines didn’t commit a hundred penalties, so in the end, our line got the job done.

A lot of this was offset by turnovers. Not just penalties. We caused havoc and turned them over. Plus, our defense
