I think I actually liked working with the bigger company better. It was a large consulting company and I was surrounded by people who were way smarter than I am. So I learned every single day. I was working with really big companies that everybody knew about and would get to travel to their headquarters.
When I went to the smaller company, there were the two owners and then I was next in charge. The owners knew nothing about technology (I think one was actually a food nutrition major in college) and were really tough to convince to spend money. Even in the tech bust after the dot com bubble, we grew from 8 employees to about 19 or 20. But getting them to spend money on stuff was just a struggle.
