Here is where Tuiaki deserves blame and needs to improve.
1. There is a huge dropoff in talent from the starters on the Dline. The backups did not look ready. Could be for any number of reasons but he is the Dline coach and has to own that. We dont need superstars but some guys who at least appear to have watched film before would be helpful.

2. Have to recruit better. Lost some very important Dline depth to undisclosed off field issues. At BYU its inevitable but it disproportionately affected the Dline this off season. Do better and figure out a better way to screen for dudes that will stick. Not easy problems to solve but those are the shortcomings most obvious after last night.


The scheme and defensive play calling is not the reason the D couldn't get off the field. CB analysts repeating it doesnt make it true. Just exposes how little we all know about football.
