USF also made an adjustment mid-2nd quarter; our response was to go conservative
I believe our response was the right call given how well our O was playing. In the first quarter and a half we were getting A LOT of penetration upfront. It looked to me like they tightened up their splits (I wasn't at the game to confirm but just watching on TV, it seemed they cut about a foot out of their OL splits), they definitely brought in a tight end instead of being mostly "spread out" to give an extra blocker (and we didn't necessarily counter with an added body in the box because, well, this is always my biggest complaint about Tuiaki is giving up numbers in the box), and they added the QB running element to slow down our penetration. Even when we were "spying" him, he beat our spy (mostly because it was not Pili spying him!).

All of those things worked for them. When our ability to penetrate and disrupt their O was taken away, with so many backups in the game, absolutely, the right call was to make them take 12-19 plays to score. Even then, how many third and fourth down conversions did they get by a yard or less...we ALMOST stopped them even with this strategy. If Baylor had made a better throw to Puka or Isaac in the end zone, we probably still end up winning by 20+ but because they blocked that FG and were only down 15 instead of 22, they didn't have to get flustered or hurry up, whereas down 22, they'd have had to sling the ball all over the field instead of methodically move it. Similar to Arizona...if one or two plays had gone differently, it would have snowballed into a blowout.

Also, not to nitpick people's complaints but we were more rush 4, drop 7 than we were rush 3, drop 8.
