I disagree with Darnell


He's saying that style points matter a lot and therefore Saturday made BYU look like a pretender.

There's a lot of bad takes here, but I'll focus on this one, where he inadequately addresses, and quickly dismisses, the counterargument to everything he is saying:

"On Sunday BYU moved up two spots in the AP poll to No. 13. Based on who lost in front of them, they would have moved up at least that much no matter the margin of victory against South Florida."

In this sentence, he entirely negates everything he says in the rest of the article. Winning and losing matters far more than style points. If everyone ahead of BYU keeps winning (they won't), BYU won't move up much, if at all, even if they keep winning as well. Because winning matters. If teams ahead of BYU lose, and BYU wins, BYU moves up. That's how it should work and that's how it appears it is working--only 2 teams ahead of BYU have a loss, and those losses were to #1 and #3.
