One more thing about BYU's ranking history. We've been ranked every season but one since 1977 when we finish with
3 losses or less.

It was our first season of independence in 2011. We started the season 1-2 with a one-point loss to Texas and blowout loss to Utah. We eventually lost to TCU in Jerry World. We didn't get any Top 25 votes in the final post-bowl vote. That's our only unranked season at 3 losses or less. The other 3-loss seasons finished with a #16, #18, #22 (twice), #23 and #25. We never finished ranked with 4 losses or more.

Out of 42 seasons including 1977, we finished with less than 3 losses 19 times, or 45.2% of the time. That's not a bad track record at all.

This would be a good season if we add to that list this year and would be an outstanding Top 15 season if we only lose one more time and a special Top 10 season if we don't lose again.

Another way of looking at this is that 94% of teams ranked outside the top 5 finished with 2 losses or more (nephicoug, Oct 10, 2021 at 10:20pm)
