We saw this against Coastal Carolina last year, where - regardless of the short week of prep - it became clear to everyone watching that BYU wasn't committed to stopping the first option (the dive). BYU's D never adjusted, and never really forced Coastal to try the passing game because they could get great yardage right up the middle all game long.

Perhaps the ability to make in-game adjustments is more rare than people on CB would think. One of my coworkers played FBS football and is of that opinion (has said in the past that many coaches are good at making game-plans but that in his experience there are very few that are good at throwing out the game-plan mid-game to fix things that aren't working).
