broadcasted nationally, so my first college football team was one that was on TV regularly. USC. We watched Notre Dame a lot, but I fell in love with USC when Lynn Swann was playing there.
Became a BYU fan somewhere around 1979. It was a regional ABC broadcast, BYU was ranked, and Mark Wilson tore apart SDSU. It was amazing. At that point BYU was on TV more often and I remember driving home about 90 miles an hour to arrive in time to watch the Miracle Bowl. Hooked permanently...
My dad was a Yewt, so we were probably Yewt basketball fans until Danny Ainge's senior year. Mostly kept track in the newspaper and because Utah was ranked, there were news clippings about their games. Once BYU was regularly being written about, switched allegiances.
Any of you guys remember daily newspapers? In the summertime, my brother and I would race to get the sports section first. During the school year we would lay down side by side and digest every last word, page by page. Around 6th grade, I also discovered the business section. Would practically memorize stat charts and stock charts...Great memories absorbing the world.
