I have a policy that when my kids friends are with us for an activity of any kind that I pay for them while they are in
our care. One of my sons has a best friend who comes from a very well-to-do family. One set of his grandparents owns a successful hotel/lodging recreational facility and has properties all over the west. His other grandparents have a lot of wealth as well with a second home in AZ and a nice cabin in addition to a nice home in Northern Utah with a pool and all the commonly desired toys.
The boys dad is a successful physician and their family not only has everything most could want but they also have a really nice cabin in Midway.
Anyway, this boy is with us 90% of the time our kids are together and my son occasionally is with them. We’ve taken the boy on weekend trips, out to eat, bowling, movies etc… multiple times and at first he would sometimes have money. I never accepted his money and told him to keep it.
As of recently my son has gone with them on a few occasions. Each time we have sent him with money and each time the friends dad has taken his money.
Not a huge deal of course but considering this family comes from generational wealth and makes at least twice the money of my household income, you’d think they could be a little more generous but they are not.
