Rivers Cuomo All-American
Just got back from a 3-day trip to Moab and the Nat’l Parks
I thought it would be crazy busy because of fall break but it wasn’t too bad at all. Someone said that the rest of the state had fall break last week. We are in Jordan School District.

On Monday, we did the Moab Giants Dinosaur place right off highway 191 at the junction that goes towards Canyonlands. It was kind of lame but my 8 year old son is on a dinosaur kick right now. It was ok for a few hours. Had lunch in their little cafe which was actually surprisingly decent food. We did a couple of little hikes in Canyonlands - Mesa Arch and the rim trail along Grand View or whatever it’s called. Amazing views. It started to rain a bit and got windy and cold so we left. Would love to go back and spend more time.

Tuesday we did Arches. We got to the park entrance sometime in the 8 o’clock hour. I was expecting to wait a long time to get in but it was only 10 minutes or so. We hiked Delicate Arch first. There were a fair number of people on the trail and probably 75-100 people gathered at the arch once we got up there. Our kids did pretty good even our little 5 year old. We did the Windows in the afternoon which was fun too.

Our kids were pretty well wiped out after that so we took them back to our rental. We realized we had left our cooler in the parking lot after lunch 🤦‍♂️so my wife and I decided to leave the kids and go back to look for it and do another hike. We never found the cooler. Stupid me. But my wife and I hiked Landscape Arch and then on up to Double O which was a really fun hike with some scrambling and a walk along a ridgeback. Four miles total. We got up to Double O just a bit before sunset. It was so pretty with the red rock bathed in golden sunlight. We clocked over 13 miles of hiking yesterday. My wife and I ate dinner at Zax. The Hobo Beef sandwich was on point. Maybe it was because I was just super hungry but I thought it was excellent.

Today we went back to Arches and did Park Avenue and Double Arch. The latter was so amazing. So huge and lots of places for the kids to climb around. On the way home tonight we stopped for dinner in Helper at Balance Rock Eatery and Pub. They serve breakfast all day so I got an omelette with hash browns and toast. It was good food and reasonably priced.

So it was a good trip. 😊 We had plans to go to Maui but two of our kids ended up having conflicts with school and sports stuff that they didn’t want to miss because they had teams depending on them. I was a little bummed but I’m glad we were able to sneak in this short trip at least.
