Nah it’s been around for a while
I first saw the soap opera effect about 10 years ago on a 120 hz TV and I hated it. Movies are typically shot at 24 frames per second and there was something about the hi speed frame rate that made it look like a soap opera. It’s just very fast, I don’t know how to explain it.
