The Dodgers had a playoff spot locked up a month before the season ended, but kept running their starters out and had them pitching high-leverage innings so they could catch the Giants. In hindsight, it would have been better to have rested the starters. They should have accepted that they would be in the wildcard game and made sure that their starters were well-rested fresh for the post-season. Instead, they have a bunch of dead arms getting shelled out there. I never thought I'd hear Max Scherzer admit to having nothing left in the tank in the 4th inning of a playoff game, but that's what he said.
