There isn't very much depth
This past offseason, they lost 3-4 contributors on the OL to the NFL, or other issues. The starting 5 are a pretty solid unit, but beyond that, there are a bunch of young underclassmen or inexperienced players. With Empey and LaChance both missing games this season, it has forced some inexperienced backups into the starting lineup. That's not a coaching issue, it is a personnel issue.

Grimes was/is an excellent OL coach, and let's be honest here, he was the real OL coach over the past 3 seasons. Pugh and Mateos were basically there to execute his instructions and vision. I honestly don't believe that the OL would be any better than it is right now if Mateos would have stayed. Everybody loves to point fingers here on CB and act like this is all Funk's fault, but I don't agree. The OL looked pretty good at the start of the season before the injuries happened, and even Whittingham commented that they were the difference makers in the win over Utah.
