It's been an issue for years and is getting worse
We saw this a lot growing up, with a husband + wife + kids just living with Mom and Dad for years and years. We moved several times and it was always the same story in each ward - several families would be living in their parents' basements everywhere we went. My Dad made it very clear that being an adult meant supporting yourself and that you shouldn't consider starting a family until you could support yourself and others.

I think that there are some current obstacles in the market that are worth considering (for example, millennials have been priced right out of the housing market in many areas of the country and are very poorly positioned to handle the effects of inflation), but there's an undeniable shift in social norms toward irresponsibility with the expectation that someday, someone else will foot the bill.

Parents have a lot of the blame here. An entire generation effectively failed at raising kids, and is now dealing with the failures of their children while raising their grandchildren as punishment.
