I generally agree, but dog parks could be an exception. There are some great

ones out there.

Also - I love to take my dogs for walks, but they're NEVER off-leash and if we approach anyone else I tighten up on the leash and move to the other side of the street/sidewalk/footpath. Because I recognize that not everybody likes dogs and some people are even terrified of them.

FTR - We have 'barkless' dogs (which is awesome...but they're horrible guard dogs) so they never bark at anyone. In my seven years with them, they've not once tried to bolt out of my grasp to chase anyone/anything. They were bred for racing, so they like to run and that's why I'll take them to the dog park. But when on a leash, they're perfectly content staying by my side regardless of any stimulation or cues that would otherwise make them want to run.
