My SIL and her husband brought their family out from South Dakota for the Boise State game. They are big BYU fans, and their 7-yo daughter absolutely loves the Cougarettes. She has since she was 3 years old, and got into dance with the goal of some day joining their ranks (she's 7, she can dream).
Well, as her uncle, I knew about her love of dance and the Cougarettes, and I also happened to have the father of a Cougarette in my FO. I contacted him to ask about a meet-up around the BSU game, and his daughter was happy to do it. I informed my SIL, and only she and her husband knew about the meetup.
At noon on gameday, the whole family was at the meeting spot, and 6 Cougarettes showed up to surprise Hazel. She was absolutely star struck, and actually did the jaw-drop thing. And those girls couldn't have been sweeter, taking photos and doing pom pom cheers, with Hazel loving every minute of it. Hazel's older sister, Anna, has Down Syndrome, and the Cougarettes really made her feel special and included as well.
After the photos, my SIL asked the Cougarettes to sign some cardstock that would later be framed. Not only did they sign it, but they found all the other Cougarettes and had them sign it as well.
I'm proud of the Cougarettes for their performance, and honored to have quality people like that representing the university I love. Well, the people are a big part of why I love BYU. They definitely have some life-long fans, and they secured for me Favorite Uncle status. Also, big thanks to my FO member for setting this up.
