Remember when ty was the oc and kalani was open about how the offense needs to score points?

Fast forward to this year.

First game we played pretty tight to the line and more aggressive defense. I think kalani was showing tuaki what he wanted. After that first game (maybe 2) the scheme changed to previous tuiaki defenses “bend but don’t break”.

Then against Baylor we went back to crowding the line- instead of giving 8 yard cushions. If it wasn’t for about 10 missed tackles within 3 yards of the line- the game would have been a lot closer. Also- did anyone else notice kalani barking at the defense - the whole defense and giving instruction to individual players when they came off the field? I think the scheme (and instruction during the game) from the Baylor game was kalani taking the d back over.

During the last few losses and even some of the wins kalani has called out the defense to get off the field, be more aggressive, create havoc, etc. similar to how he called out ty’s offense when they weren’t scoring points.

I think tuiakis days are numbered

A little note regarding tuiaki bend but don’t break defense:
Someone brought up the fact that our defense and offense average 10 possessions per game vs the typical 14.

Even though tuiaki defense rank of scoring defense has been good- take 30%(ish) reduction of possessions faced and of course your gonna appear to be good in scoring defense. Would probably be better to compare points per posession- not total scoring.

Another gripe about bend but don’t break which stems from the thoughts of an interview from Ben Criddle yesterday. These hockey subs are needed BECAUSE of the defense being on the field so long because of the defense philosophy. Which is why we’re getting into our 3rd and 4th strings -which struggle.

I’m open to any thought for or against. I’m excited about the future- good recruits coming in, big12, kalani, arod, etc.
