My take on coaches being the experts and fans being the idiots
Of course, coaches have a lot more insight but I don't think people realize that they also don't have the time that many think they have to implement schemes and practice different things, etc. Thus, ultimately they are making decisions based on imperfect information and with a limited amount of time to make adjustments (at least during the season). Ultimately, the results we see week to week on the football field are MONTHS or YEARS in the making. Also, people of any profession, no matter how smart they are, don't always make great decisions. People also have blindspots, biases, lack of experience in certain areas or sometimes are just not flexible in how they approach problem-solving.

You also can't tell me that none of you have ever questioned your mechanic, accountant, attorney, real estate agent (ok bad example lol), etc. All these folks are probably a lot more experienced than you are in their field but that does not make their systems infallible and/or above reproach. Of course, a fan complaining on a fan site doesn't make the fan right either but I think there are a lot of complaints that are at least somewhat legitimate.

The problem is, like I said, if you have a certain tendency to do one thing it's not that easy to just change it overnight. I, for example, think about 3/4 of college football if they just run the ball and used occasional play action, would have at least a 50/50 shot of beating BYU. But luckily BYU plays teams like Washington State that are just unwilling and/or unable to change their approach. They are going to do what they do regardless of the opponent. That's good to a point but unless you have a large advantage in talent is just too inflexible of an approach to consistently win. It's exactly why Bronco never has had nor ever will have an elite team and it's probably why BYU has a decent chance of winning this Saturday.
