Eh. I'd compare it to playing against friends.
I compete and want to beat them when we're playing a game or sport or something, but if they win I don't hate them forever. They're my friends, but I still want to beat them too.

I mean - if I like Bronco, I mean him no ill-will. But I still want to beat him in competition. And I hope that he does well outside of that - but I want him to lose to me. And if he wins, I'm disappointed that I lost, but I don't hate him for winning. If my friend (or Bronco in this case) is a jerk about winning and a bad sport, I might be mad at him for a time. But just winning? Hating someone just because they beat you seems dumb.
