“All the King’s Men” (1999) I think does a great job showing the cost of life.
“War horse” does a good job of getting the horrors of war.

The Australian Series “Gallipoli” was well done at showing that campaign and cost, and meaning to the ANZACs.

“Gallipoli” the movie staring Mel Gibson was romantic, but also showed the cost of life of that campaign.

“sergeant York” with Gary Cooper as Sergeant York may be the most famous movie set in WWI.
