That's pretty interesting coming from Boyd.
A couple of years ago I was at a fundraiser at the Davis Co Golf Courses and got talking to a guy who worked there. We got talking about playing golf, being a pro, etc. I made some joke about being paid to play golf - and he said that wasn't the case, "be careful what you wish for".

This guy told me he was friends with Boyd and grew up with him - and while Boyd was at the course every day, he was typically at the range practicing various shots with various clubs. As a result, Boyd would tell them he couldn't/didn't have time to golf a round with them because he had to practice. So they'd golf a round, and Boyd would be at the range and putting green taking shot after shot for the next 3-4 hours.

Interesting that it sounds like Boyd is looking at a different approach for his kids. I think he's right too - just playing will give you a chance to take all of those "practice" shots with more pressure to make them because you're keeping score.
