Range is where you learn to swing. Course is where you learn to play. You want to be a player, it's about the course.
I agree you need to spend more time putting and chpping than on the range typically. But range time has value to work out kinks. Just do not overdo it there. Or you'll tinker too much and overthink it and mess your game up.
