I don't know what to expect. I follow both programs very closely and I think I could make a strong case for BYU and I could also make one for UVA. If I gambled on college football I would not touch this game. Yes, I have my preference. But honestly my hope is that this is a good game and that neither team walks away from LES embarrassed. Blowouts happen, even to the best of teams, but I just can't see that happening this Saturday.
One of the ironies of this entire BYU-UVA matchup for me is that many of you ONLY care about UVA (for better or worse) because of Bronco and his LDS staff given their BYU roots. For me, my fandom of all things UVA has absolutely nothing to do with Bronco. I was never one to call for his firing when he was at BYU but I also never really defended him. I thought he had a natural ceiling as a coach and he reached that ceiling at BYU in the late 2000's. I think he's probably reached his natural ceiling at UVA too. I hope I'm wrong.
I'm pretty connected to the UVA community for various reasons. For those of you who care about the Church and all things LDS I can tell you that Bronco has been a huge asset for the Church in the Charlottesville / UVA community. Some of us don't care about that kind of thing but for those of you who do, you should be a big fan of this guy. Again, I think he's limited as a head coach but as a Church asset outside of Utah I can't think of many people who have the kind of positive impact he has.
If Bronco disappeared from the college football scene many of you wouldn't give one crap about UVA. I get that. But if you're active LDS, you should treasure a guy like this among the Gentiles. He's a pretty amazing ambassador for the Church. Again, that's not what I ever cared about in a coach at either UVA or BYU for that matter. I'm more into the pure football side of things. But many of you are really into that kind of thing and Bronco should be a hero to you.
PS: UVA women ranked #1 in soccer as of this morning. I think this is UVA's week (just kidding calm down)
