The new FEI ratings are out through week 8. Here is where BYU stacks up:
Offense: 17th in the country. Against an average opponent on a neutral field we score .82 points more per drive than the average team

Defense: 68th in the country. Against an average opponent on a neutral field we give up .03 points more per drive than the average team

Special Teams: 74th in the country. This one is a little misleading as they take into account field position and our offense on average starts at our own 26.6 yard line which ranks 103rd in the country. Our defense on the other hand gets the advantage of the other team starting on their own 25.8 yard line which is 13th best in the entire country. In other words our offense is very good at not turning the ball over or going 3 and out (yes we had a couple of bad turnovers against Boise St, but that has really been it for bad turnovers in our own territory which is excellent through 8 games.) We are good in punt efficiency at 27th overall but bad in Field Goal efficiency at 105th overall.

Overall: 41st

Note: Virginia is ranked 7th in offense and 96th in defense. We need to score points this week and our defense needs to do a better job of forcing teams into field goals.
