I don’t feel like digging up the details, but I do know your account of the
Phillips situation is not correct. Bronco did bring in a few kickers the year that a skier decided he wanted to try football instead.
We can look back in hindsight and proclaim, “Man, what in idiot,” but the truth is that the guys that Bronco did bring in had better résumés.
Despite what everyone wants to believe now, Phillips was not some can’t miss prospect. In fact, he didn’t even exit Utah’s fall camp as their starting kicker.
If you knew that a skier was going to suddenly drop skiing and become an all American kicker, might I trouble you for some stock advice?
