Two years ago I posted on June 30th that I hoped the Jazz would sign Ed Davis or Richaun Holmes. They signed Davis and then the next day Holmes signed on with Sacramento for the same salary that Davis got from Utah. Davis was an unmitigated disaster, while Holmes went on to averaged 12 and 8 for Sacramento. Last year Holmes was one of only 3 players in the league who allowed a lower points/possession than Gobert as the primary defender in isolation.
Don't know if Holmes would've signed with Utah if offered in 2019 or if they could've afforded to keep him this past summer, but having him in place of Davis would've drastically altered the past 2 seasons.
