Doesn't matter to me
Since I wouldn't rent rooms in my house out to strangers for vacation rental anyway.
Just saying I know those who do. There are still ways to do it and avoid income taxes. Obviously, they would only do it if it's profitable.
But like I say, I don't care. It's not for me. I wouldn't even rent a home I didn't live in out because I hate dealing with tenants. I went all through the landlord/apartment ownership phase and I'm done with that forever.

This is incorrect man. They can wait until they pass away, get a step in basis on their assets, and have all that growth

They can let the debt run up forever and then have it paid for with assets that have stepped up in basis at their death.
