- England will almost certainly clinch a spot at the World Cup today. A win or draw against lowly San Marino would be enough. Even if they lose, they would take 1st place in their group unless Poland defeated Hungary AND make up six goals of goal differential. The good news for Poland, though, is that even though there is less than a .1% chance of them winning the group, they've already clinched 2nd place and will compete in next year's playoffs.
- Either Italy or Switzerland will qualify from their group, while the other will have to go through next year's playoffs. Currently, the two are even on points, but the Italians hold a two-goal lead on differential. Italy play at Northern Ireland while the Swiss host Bulgaria. If either teams gets a better result than the other, they will take 1st place. If they both draw their respective matches, then Italy clinches a spot. If they both win or both lose, then it will come down to goal differential, and the Swiss would have to rout Bulgaria or hope that Northern Ireland routs Italy (depending on the scenario).
- There are also World Cup qualifying matches in Africa, but all teams involved have already been eliminated from World Cup contention
