This area of the country has traditionally been very anti vax. The first wave of vaccine mandates hit the forest service already, and a lot of people in my community chose to be fired rather than get the vaccine. It blows my mind how someone could chose to leave a stable well paying government job over this. But it is happening. We are currently sitting at 50% vaccine rate for all employees, but it is lopsided - the administration, office staff and physicians are heavily vaccinated, the nurses, rad techs, and CNAs are mostly not. We will see how many of our chose to leave the medical field, but it doesn’t take many nurses or rad techs quitting to no longer be able to staff a 11 bed critical access hospital.
