the playoffs, then a bowl with a conference champion tie in is able to choose who they want fr that conference (so if and when Georgia makes the playoffs, the Sugar bowl can pick whatever team they want from the SEC).

There isn’t a “selecting” by the bowls or consideration - it’s either ranked high enough or not.
