Just tell him you're no longer interested in paying that price unless he wants to edge / trim / weed etc. He'll probably do it for 25 or 30 next time. Also, if his mower really is using almost 3 gallons worth of gas for a 30 minute mow, tell him it's not your problem. You can mow for several hours on a single gallon in a push mower.
