we had Jonah Trinnaman who could have been the best deep threat since Todd Watkins had he played with Zach Wilson. Then we had Micah Simon, Matt Bushman, Talon Shumway, Neil Pau’u, and Aleva Hifo.
I used to think Neil Pau’u was a mediocre receiver. Nope…he just played in a terrible offense. Ty Detmer was just a really bad OC, and the position coaches weren’t great either, other then Steve Clark.
Grimes, Fesi, and A-Rod (and now Harvey) made all the difference, and recruiting has definitely improved since then as a result. Guys like Dylan Collie, Puka Nacua, and Samson Nacua don’t transfer to BYU without that staff, and guys like Gunner Romney, Cody Hagen, and Chase Roberts don’t commit without that staff.
