Me: congratulations on your retirement. Got any big trips planned? You going to buy an RV and travel the country?
Co-worker: No, nothing of the sort. I've traveled in western Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy, Lichtenstein, etc) and there is absolutely nothing in the US that compares. Once you've seen the Pantheon in Rome or seen buildings in Europe that are hundreds of years old and still in use, you've been spoiled. It's like choosing to eat a plain boiled potato after you've experienced a potato bar.
What a pretentious idiot. I'm sure Europe is great, but I don't see how that equates to there being nothing in the US worth seeing. He then went on and wrote an essay on how he is going to use his time and money mentoring and investing in people.
