Would UW or USC tolerate a season like BYU had in 2017?
Based on how quickly UW tossed Jimmy Lake, I think that’d be a big no. And USC would’ve tossed Helton sooner were it not for a change at AD.

BYU gave Crowton 3 seasons to get his act together before finally giving him the axe. BYU stands by its hires significantly longer. And you know what? The HC doesn’t have to be a drawback, it can be an asset in the right staff’s hands.

I understand that the BYU typically pays below market rate, but we will be almost tripling our TV revenue in not too long. I don’t think money will be a long term issue. The BOT probably doesn’t care as long as you don’t have to dip into tithing funds.

BYU has also put in millions for facility improvements. Does that sound like a program that would let a good coach walk without a fight?

I would hope Kalani would show some loyalty after how TH stuck his neck out for him after arguably one of the worst seasons ever. I want him and his staff to get paid more, but I’m not convinced that money is the only reason he does things. Get him up to par with other P5 coaches, but it doesn’t need to be Alabama big.

UW and USC can pay more but along with that comes with extremely high expectations in a not great conference.

And not everybody is dying to leave their current job. Guys leaving isn’t a guarantee anymore: see Fickell, Franklin, Traylor, etc.
