The move is a complete shocker to OU fans. Called it a “lateral move” for Riley (obviously Riley disagrees, otherwise why would he do it). He’s bitter that Stoops “hand picked” Riley and now he bolts (I mean, OU wouldn’t keep him if he wasn’t winning so why should he stay if he feels there’s a better opportunity). Said Riley’s reputation in coaching circles is going to take a hit (if he wins, it isn’t going to matter what others think in the coaching ranks).
He was irritated because Riley is currently building a huge home in Norman so they all thought he was a lifer there. Now there is far less certainty heading to the SEC. Maybe it’s a desirable job but it seems like it has little upside for whoever takes over.
