USC’s offensive recruits rank between 8-20 in the nation in the last 4 years rolling average. Our D recruits average 60-85 in the last 4 years rolling.
The entire linebacking corps that started against Utah is out, including both defensive captains and arguably our 3 best defensive players (Pili, Wilgar, Ah You). You had guys that legit didn’t have D1 offers (Criddle) playing 20+ snaps.
We had 24 guys register a defensive stat, the most ever in a game in BYU history. And that’s not a good thing.
In a very very real way our 2nd and 3rd stringers beat USC.
Additionally, he mixed up the plan. Good mix of zone and man, good mix of rush 4 (60% of snaps-ish), rush 3 (20%) and blitz (30% ish)
It was an incredible plan with a depleted and exhausted D coming from a cross-country game in GA, against a far far more talented team fighting for its life.
Those kids played hard. And like it or not, they, and Tuiaki deserve praise for it
