the apology has nothing to do with mormons being offended and everything to do with the possibility that people will think the university is ok with any kind of hate speech toward another person if they don't say something. USC got in front of it so that a random website doesn't publish a story about it. Now all the stories are about the USC apology instead of the idea that USC may be ok with it. Don't overthink it
