I don’t ever use it because it can become addictive, however, is it a good idea to use it at night when I have a cold so I can breath and get a good night’s rest? Yea, or nay?

Don't use it longer than a week.

A week is far too long, at least in my experience. I'd use it for 3 days max.

My method, that has always worked for me is that I let myself use it for 6-7

Also, the “addiction” or rebound swelling is fairly easily treated with steroids

IMO, Navage works really well, no need for nasal spray.
