And he knocked it out of the park. He spoke at a grad school event I was at and he talked about how he was interviewed by Pres. Eyring and said that their knees were almost touching because he was sitting so close to him and made it clear that that BYU was going to have a clean, honorable, upstanding program and not the detrimental off the field issues that they experienced at that time. I recall that he mentioned that he felt that BYU was close to eliminating the program and that this was the last chance. He cleaned up the program, got rid of many talented but ill fitting players, embraced BYU and its standards and he still won. The BYU players loved him, they say one of the toughest guys you'll ever meet but also a genuine disciple of Christ. The way he handled the delicate Van Noy situation is only one example - when he got the DUI. Probably the best defensive player he had while he was there but suspended him for the year but by Van Noy's own account that it really saved him. Bronco would casually share his testimony with anyone, i remember him doing that during the Oklahoma pregame on ESPN or ABC or whatever. He had the respect of most everyone. He gave his heart and soul to the program for 11 years. He set up the program for success, making it at least a little easier for Kalani to take it to the next level. I just don't get it, what more do people expect of the guy? Frankly the complaints seem very petty and small compared to his contributions. I love Bronco for his football success, even more for fixing and saving a pretty messed up program, and overall positive effect on young men and others in and out of the church.
