MLS is not comparable to the top leagues in the world. They suck. If you watch
enough soccer, you will come to learn that a tie can feel like a win. It’s all circumstantial. When you put the result in the perspective of a whole season, every little point matters. A lower league team getting a 0-0 draw against a soccer giant is a win because every point counts. They gained 1 point for themselves and robbed 2 points from the other team. A huge shift in point differential that effects league standings.

If it was just a one off game, then yeah a tie would be unsatisfying, but with perspective, it’s very intriguing.

This point system, along with relegation, prevents tanking towards the end of the season and keeps all games competitive. Don’t just get to cruise through the season for the 8th spot in the playoffs and then go all out and win on a hot streak. Makes a team be consistent throughout the season.
