Real question: has there ever been a head BYU football or b-ball coach that had
more success at another school than they had at BYU? I can't think of a single one - at least since my fandom began in the early 80s. The only one that comes remotely close is Norm Chow as the OC at NC State and USC but he was OC not head coach. Still, he's the only coach I can think of that perhaps had more success elsewhere than at BYU even as a position coach. And I suppose you could now add Grimes to that list.

This leads me to believe that folks, in general, overrate BYU's head coaches. I mean people said Bronco was going to flourish with P5 recruits at Virginia and 5 years in he had one of the worst defenses in the country. I know people will say it's Virginia, yada, yada, yada but Virginia has been just as competitive in the past as they were with Bronco.

Ultimately, I'm of the opinion that Sitake has grown into being a good coach at BYU but if he did choose to go elsewhere that the job is not as impossible as many here paint it to be. I'm sure it may not pay as much as some similar jobs but overall I think there actually are some advantages at BYU that don't exist at other places. Hate away defenders!
