I'm not sure why all the g5s don't do it.

Pretty simple. Make sure to schedule the future #5 team years in advance and beat them, go undefeated two years in a row and, make sure that there are no more than 3 one loss teams. It also helps to have recently accepted an invitation to join a P5 conference
